Dear colleagues, It is our great pleasure to announce the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) “Basics of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance”, which is the first course of a comprehensive three-part online learning programme on NMR. This MOOC hosted on the FUN platform is now open for free registration. This 5-week program aims at providing the participants with basic knowledge about NMR and is intended for undergraduate and graduate students as well as educators and professionals who need to gain proficiency as routine NMR users. This course will present the basic principles of NMR spectroscopy as well as strategies to elucidate the structure of small organic molecules in solution from 1D and 2D 1H and 13C NMR spectra. The course will be held from September 26 to November 10, 2023. We estimate a workload of 3 to 4 hours per week. MOOC participants will learn through video lectures and online discussions with peers and professors. The acquired knowledge will be tested through weekly quizzes as well as case studies integrating all types of 1D and 2D experiments explored. English, simplified Chinese and Japanese subtitles are provided. This course does not require previous knowledge about NMR spectroscopy. Nevertheless, the participants should have a background in basic chemistry (chemical elements, molecular structure) and in basic physics (magnetism, basic spectroscopy). This course is taught by Olivier Lafon and Cédric Lion, professor and associate professor, respectively, at the University of Lille. The University of Lille is part of the French research infrastructure for chemical analysis (https://infranalytics.eu/en/) and hosts a high-field NMR facility, including the first 1.2 GHz NMR spectrometer installed in France. Dr. Ming Shen, associate professor at East China Normal University, P. R. China, and Dr. Akiko Sasaki are acknowledged for the translation of the subtitles into simplified Chinese and Japanese, respectively. Please distribute this announcement to your students as well as to your colleagues who may be interested. If you are interested, please register through the website https://www.fun-mooc.fr/en/courses/basics-nuclear-magnetic-resonance/ You can already watch the MOOC trailer on this website. With kind regards, Olivier Lafon and Cédric Lion
